Volkswagen DC fast charging map
  • Level 1 – This is the slowest charging and uses a regular 120-volt outlet that you likely have in your garage.
  • Level 2 – You can still do Level 2 charging in your home, but you will require an L2 wall box charger. This works much faster. With the 11kW charger you can charge to full in as little as 7.5 hours and with the 7.2kW charger you can charge in as little as 11.5 hours.
  • Level 3 – This is DC fast charging, which is what you would want to use when you are on the road. Charging to full can still take some time as the last 20% of your battery will charge slowly, but the first 80% of your battery can be charged in as little as 38 minutes.

Things to do while your ID.4 is charging

If you are using a Level 1 or Level 2 charger, then ideally you would be doing this while you slept or while you were working. Many hotels offer Level 1 and Level 2 charging options too for when you are on the road. But with how fast Level 3 charging is, you can use it as a perfect excuse to get some food and get back on the road with over 200 miles back in your battery.
