What Kinds of Phone Can Connect to New Volkswagen Cars?
Luckily for everyone, Volkswagen has made Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® standard through their Volkswagen App-Connect system. That means if you have an android phone or an iPhone, you can connect your phone to your car easily. Unless your android phone or iPhone is several years old, you shouldn’t need anything more than a USB charging cable that works with your phone to connect.
Android phones need to have Android 6.0 or higher to connect to Android Auto™, so as long as your phone was made after 2015, you shouldn’t have any problems.
All permutations of the iPhone 5, SE, 6, 7, 8, X, 11, and 12 are built to work with Apple CarPlay®.

How Do I Connect my Phone to my Volkswagen?
The process of connecting your phone with a USB cable is rather simple. Turn your car on, but leave it parked and connect your phone (which should also be on) to it with the USB cable. Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay® do things differently, but for either, you will be going back and forth between your phone screen and the vehicle’s infotainment screen to set up some settings. After these settings are set up once, you shouldn’t need to repeat them. After your phone and car are set up, they will recognize each other when they reconnect. As an added bonus, the cable will charge your phone while it’s plugged in and the car is on too!
